I grew up dancing since I was two years old. I miss it now every day, and how I have these amazing memories of growing up in a dance studio. The studio was so aesthetically pleasing, rigid and orderly with nice wood ballet bars and floors, and mirrors surrounding every wall. I think of these things, and how I watched myself grow up in the mirror. I watched myself grow from a little girl into an adult as I looked through the same mirrors every day, which I think is pretty special. I got to do this by moving and dancing throughout my growth, which is why the mirror is a circular shape. The materials are wood, a mirror, and bees wax to enrich the wood.

"Mountain tranquility"

Final:

I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, not very close to the beach. I was near the mountains, though, and used to find peace in hiking and looking at the texture of the mountains. I was inspired by the mountains in old school topography maps, and thought about how I could incorporate this in my piece. I begin making a repetitive mountain shape, but it actually turned into a more abstract shape with an outline around it. I liked this as a take on mountains, and decided to repeat this in different scales. The blue color is because blue is a relaxing color to me, like mountains. The foam board was cut and incorporated into drawing paper, with India ink mixed with water for the blue. I drew the lines of the "mountains" first, and then attached the foam board.

Balsa wood sculptures

Two sculptures- made out of balsa wood, masking tape, pins, wood glue, and tracing paper

The first sculpture is many organic shapes of the balsa wood as well as the wood glue. It is an exploration of the saying "going with flow", as the glue and shapes represent fluidity. The pins were showed on purpose, in order to create a raw look. The triangles made out of tracing paper counteract the organic shapes. Texture is also a component in this structure.

The second sculpture is completely geometrical, and it is all the same rectangular shape repeated. The  masking tape was used to create a different texture apart from only the balsa wood. The same stair-like pattern is repeated three times, and places together to create a symmetrical shape, with one of the stair-like pieces in the middle.
